Michael E. Rom MD completed his ophthalmology residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 1994, and has been serving as a Mentor Eye Doctor and Chardon Eye Doctor (in Ohio) ever since. Dr. Rom is a respected and sought after Cleveland Lasik Eye Surgeon as well.

In that suburban/semi rural/rural area, Dr. Rom has been practicing comprehensive ophthalmology, with particular emphasis on Cataract surgery and glaucoma laser surgery.

Dr. Rom performs the ‘no stitch, no patch’ cataract surgery technique which involves no needles and minimal sedation. The surgery lasts approximately ten minutes, after which the patient is able to go home with no patches on the eye. Recovery is usually quick and vision is rehabilitated usually within days (often the next day).

Recently the FDA approved a new multifocal implant which could reduce the patient’s dependence on glasses altogether. There are two implants in this category, the ReZoom, and the ReStor, ReStor. Each have their own advantages though in the final analysis, both aim to achieve a high degree of independence from both distance and reading glasses.

On the glaucoma side, recent advances enable Dr. Rom to apply a painless laser to the periphery of the eye and thereby reduce or eliminate the need for daily eye drops. The success rate of this laser is approximately 80% and is repeatable.

Dr. Rom has become one of the premier Lasik Laser Eye surgeons in Cleveland, performing around 300 lasik surgeries per month. He is certified and is using all the latest laser platforms approved by the FDA. His success rate is very high with less than 5% enhancement rate.

All in all, Dr. Rom has performed over 18,000 micro-surgical procedures including cataract, lasik and glaucoma laser surgeries.

Dr. Rom performs routine eye exams, checking for eye diseases such as cataract, glaucoma and macular degeneration, as well as screening for diabetic eye diseases and other medical conditions in the body which may manifest in the eye.
